Romantik Hotels & Restaurants is launching a new lifestyle magazine that manages to combine offline and online worlds. The explore Romantik magazine focuses on experience and discovery. Thanks to augmented reality (AR), the printed magazine is enriched by further content in the digital world.
"Creating measurable interaction via a print product was our ambition when we started," says Thomas Edelkamp, CEO of Romantik Hotels & Restaurants. After more than a year of further development, he says, we have now succeeded in presenting a magazine that allows the readership to obtain a lot of additional information and impressions online via smartphone, using augmented reality. "The result is a whole new way of life. It gives us the opportunity to bring the experiences that the brand and the hosts offer to the readership in a really fascinating form."
Interaction through augmented reality
The magazine thrives on large-scale motifs that whet readers' appetites for travel and discovery and inspire them. Complete in itself as a print edition, the magazine lives on in the digital realm thanks to two multimedia levels. These enable the brand to pick up the readership and invite them into the digital world. Classic QR codes and fancy augmented reality content that continue the stories online are just waiting to be discovered. This is made possible thanks to the free app that brings explore Romantik magazine to life digitally. Key symbols in the magazine open up the world of augmented reality and mark the places behind which AR content is hidden. These can be read with the app as easily as QR codes. Among other things, videos, background information and travel tips are revealed that complement the print magazine in the digital world.
In keeping with the brand's "explore worlds", the magazine covers the entire diversity of romance. Stories about culinary delights, wellness, culture and activities provide new insights and travel inspiration. For purely digital users, the magazine is also available as an interactive blog at www.romantikhotels.com/de/romantik-magazin. This is designed for mobile use and can be read on a smartphone or tablet. The AR content is integrated directly into the magazine articles.
