8 June 2022 promises a glimpse into a possible future of shopping. From then on, the Metaverse, the virtual 3D showroom of STF x Jelmoli x Zeam, can be entered directly on site at Jelmoli Zurich using virtual reality glasses. Fashion pieces from the project "STF x Jelmoli - The Power of Craft" can be admired virtually in the Metaverse.
This is how shopping will be in the future: Jelmoli and the STF Swiss Textile College use their joint project "The Power of Craft" to show future scenarios of how the advantages of two different worlds, the real and the virtual, can be used and combined for future shopping.
In the real world, at the point of sale at Jelmoli in the Spotlite on the 1st floor, the exclusive, sustainable Capsule Collection "The Power of Craft", produced entirely in Switzerland, made of Swiss materials and strictly limited, is available for purchase. It was designed by students at the STF Swiss Textile College and produced by apprentices at the Modeco teaching studio in Zurich. The collection and its materials can be felt and tried on there.
In the virtual world in the Metaverse, which can also be entered on the first floor in the Spotlite at Jelmoli using virtual reality glasses, the fashion pieces on display can be purchased as NFTs. Anyone who gets hold of such a fashion piece using the cryptocurrency Ethereum will also receive the physical, i.e. real, designer piece. Only one NFT can be purchased per fashion piece. Those who do not yet have a wallet can set one up directly on site at the event on 8 June 2022 with the help of experts. Wallets are used to store the private and public keys needed for all types of cryptocurrency transactions and to track ownership.
The STF x Jelmoli x Zeam Metaverse is a training platform for the various partners to gain knowledge of what this trend means for a retailer like Jelmoli and what a possible future of shopping could look like. For the STF Swiss Textile College, the Metaverse is a technology with which its students from the Fashion Design & Technology courses can transfer the knowledge of designing on avatars and in 3D taught at the school to another possible field of application. For both partners, the expanded possibilities in relation to the topic of sustainability and the future scenarios of shopping play an important role.
