The indoor swimming pool in Männedorf recently started offering another film for virtual reality (VR) snorkelling. We tested the skydiving film and also saw how the unique snorkelling experience is received by children.
In December 2020, we already visited the indoor swimming pool in Männedorf to test the latest virtual reality attraction. test: Virtual Reality Snorkelling. We two adult testers liked the experience very much at the time. But how do kids react to it? On our second visit last weekend, we brought two young test subjects with us to answer this question and we also tested the latest film.
After a brief explanation of what the films were about, the two boys immediately chose skydiving - the latest of the four VR experiences on offer.
Skydiving in the water
Well, who wouldn't like to be able to fly like a bird and discover the world from above? Parents have forbidden it in real life, at least until the age of majority, so you should use the virtual world to make the impossible possible.
As soon as you have installed the floating ring, the VR goggles and the snorkel and the film is loaded, you see four differently coloured Skydive colleagues flying in front of you. For the next five minutes, you float almost weightlessly through dense walls of fog, over mighty mountains and steep precipices, past forests and mystical rock sculptures.
The time under water flies by, so to speak. I especially liked the scene with the many differently coloured hot-air balloons. A dream!
The flight is relatively fast-paced. If you turn around and virtually fly backwards, the film may not be suitable for every stomach. However, those who align themselves forward should certainly be able to enjoy the experience without feeding the non-existent fish in the basin...
Here is a little insight:
Skydiving is also a favourite with the kids
The young team was also very enthusiastic about VR snorkelling. There was a smaller swimming belt for them, but otherwise the same equipment. After they saw how it works for the adults, there was no longer any fear of contact and they snorkelled like the pros.
After the dive, both reported on their experience with shining eyes. And who is surprised? Although the indoor pool offers other cool attractions, they wanted more VR. That's why there was another film for each of them: One Atlantis and one Ocean.
When asked which was better, the unanimous answer was skydiving - because it was more realistic.
The conclusion: VR snorkelling in Männedorf: the perfect, harmless diving experience or the perfect flying fun for the whole family.
