Last autumn, Nextherapy, the first high-tech outpatient rehabilitation clinic for children and adults with varying degrees of disability, opened in the heart of Zurich. Robotics, virtual reality, sensors and 3D cameras are used.
When her son Nataniel was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, founder Nilofar Niazi left her career on Wall Street behind. From then on, she devoted herself to caring for her child and successfully established the neuro-rehabilitation centre TRAINM in Belgium. In Zurich, she opened Nextherapy now another neuro-rehab clinic.
The specialised rehabilitation clinic in Zurich uses the latest technologies to provide the best possible support for patients with a wide range of neurological deficits, e.g. due to cerebral palsy, stroke or spinal cord and brain injuries.
Nextherapy's personalised treatment programmes combine different scientific disciplines.
"We believe in the synergy between the most intensive, data-driven treatment protocols with cutting-edge technology and a stimulating atmosphere with music and a team of neuro-trainers who believe in continuous improvement and the potential of every patient," says Nilofar Niazi, founder and CEO of Nextherapy.
Up to 1,000 repetitions per session thanks to state-of-the-art robots
Highly qualified neurotherapists, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and neuropsychologists, define individual goals together with the patients, which are continuously evaluated. This is done using data-driven programmes that are tailored to the specific needs and progress of each individual patient.
The revolutionary evidence-based therapy relies on intensity, repetition and specificity with the help of the latest technologies such as robotics, virtual reality, sensors, 3D cameras and neurogaming to best activate the activity-dependent plasticity of the brain.
"By repeating a specific movement thousands of times, you can get the functioning part of the brain to learn it again," says Nilofar Niazi. "A physiotherapist can do forty to fifty movements in half an hour. In a session at Nextherapy with a robot, it's up to a thousand repetitions."
Nextherapy offers individually tailored therapy solutions to insured and self-pay patients - from weekly training sessions to specialised boot camps lasting several months.
"Our goal is to help patients regain independence in activities of daily living and lead as self-determined a lifestyle as possible in the most effective, efficient way. The treatment is very intensive and the results can be amazing," says Nilofar Niazi.
