The Chapel Bridge becomes interactive with AR

The Chapel Bridge is blossoming anew - digitally. Thanks to a new app and modern technology, the famous paintings and all of Lucerne's wooden bridges can be viewed at home on the kitchen table.

After the St Peter's Chapel it is now the turn of the Chapel Bridge in Lucerne - it is going digital and can therefore be experienced everywhere. It is known all over the world - Lucerne's Chapel Bridge with its water tower. For some time now, it has also enjoyed a place on the internet, on the website kapellbruecke.com. This has now been supplemented with an app called "Chapel Bridge", as the city of Lucerne writes. Using augmented reality functions, the bridge can be experienced interactively on site or from home. The project was launched and implemented by Lucerne Tourism.

Modern technology beams bridge onto kitchen table

The app guides visitors who are in Lucerne from place to place and provides background information and tips on the bridges. This is possible thanks to location and image recognition software. But even those who cannot be there should be able to benefit from the app.

Thanks to augmented reality functionality, users can project the unique Lucerne wooden bridges onto their kitchen table at home. A virtual 360-degree tour is also available. The app was developed by the Lucerne agency Digital Heroes GmbH and the Hinz und Kunz AG from Sarnen.

Products also serve as communication channels

The website kapellbruecke.com was developed and launched in summer 2019, presenting information and stories about the Chapel Bridge, the Spreuer Bridge and the former Court Bridge. The site also features a quiz and people who are responsible for maintaining the bridge and watering the geraniums.

With the new platforms, Lucerne Tourism aims to present the world-famous and popular Chapel Bridge even more strongly. The website and app also complement Lucerne Tourism's communication channels.

The endeavour cost around 370,000 francs. It was financed by the Nina and Walter Alfred Baumann Fund.
