Although PlayStation VR is compatible with the PlayStation 5, many VR users would like Sony to launch a successor as soon as possible. However, this could take longer than previously assumed or hoped.
PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has spoken in an interview about the future of virtual reality, which he says is still years away: "I think we're more than a few minutes away from the future of VR. We definitely believe that VR will be a meaningful component of interactive entertainment at some point in the future. Will it be this year? No. Will it be next year? No. But will it come at some point? We believe it will."
Jim Ryan added: "We're very pleased with all the experiences we've had with PlayStation VR and we're looking forward to seeing where it takes us in the future." So Sony doesn't see the next big VR step coming any time soon, which could of course also have an impact on a potential release of PlayStation VR 2, but Jim Ryan did not make any direct statements about this.
