The market research company SuperData Research (Nielsen), which specialises in game download sales, now reports that "Half-Life: Alyx" reached around 860,000 players in March 2020. However, the data is not official.
The figure is not necessarily high for a AAA title, but when it comes to a pure VR game, the 860,000 players shortly after the launch are very remarkable, because according to SuperData, around four million PC-compatible VR headsets were sold by the end of last year. This means that "Half-Life: Alyx" appeals to a comparatively limited target audience, even if many more VR users have been added this year.
Direct sales of "Half-Life: Alyx" generated revenues totalling 40.7 million US dollars. Hundreds of thousands of free copies of the game were also combined with devices such as Valve Index to increase interest in VR, according to the SuperData report.
