Gather resources, lay roads and build new settlements, which eventually become cities with the aim of gaining supremacy on Catan. And hours of fun are almost guaranteed. We are of course talking about the game "Settlers of Catan", a classic board game from 1995, which is now finally to be released in VR.
Pokémon GO, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Ingress Prime are household names among fans of open-air mobile games. Manufacturer Niantic has been working on another title for some time, which is intended to bring a well-known brand into the scheme: Catan World Explorers is according to the official website a "massively multiplayer augmented reality game" that transforms the entire earth into a giant Catan game.
In the real world, smartphone users have to harvest, trade and build in order to turn real-world landmarks into sources of resources for settlements. They collect "bricks, timber, grain, ores and wool" - which vary in frequency depending on the region. Sheep, for example, need wheat. Roads can be built and settlements can be expanded.
Playing in teams
Development maps and other features for expanding your territory will also be part of the AR game. This will allow participants to collect victory points for their local environment and the global team. Seasonal rewards await you in return, giving you a future advantage. You can also take part in collective events with your friends or compete against each other in self-created games.
As a team, you can work on your level both locally and globally, especially as you can also play with private friends in personal matches. If you finish as a "Seasonal Champion", you can take the rewards with you into future seasons. Supported systems are not yet revealed, but similar to other Niantic titles, it is likely to be Android and iOS. A date has also not yet been set, but you can already look forward to it on the official website register in advance to be notified at the start.
