Learning the basics of programming through a video game is not an entirely new idea. Zenva Sky, however, transfers the concept to virtual reality for the first time.
Educational games are a popular method of teaching the basics of programming to young and old budding coders. The operators of the online coding school Zenva have now transferred the concept to virtual reality for the first time. In their VR game Zenva Sky, you can use basic programming techniques to solve various tasks in order to progress. Puzzle by puzzle, you learn more and more coding basics.
In a blog post, Zenva founder Pablo Farias Navarro describes that it was not so easy to transfer the educational game concept to virtual reality. "Very quickly it became clear that what works well on a screen does not necessarily work in VR," Navarro explains the initial problems of the project. The first prototype was simply too complex - and also not really fun. So the team started over and developed the version of the game that is now available for download.
Zenva Sky supports the VR headsets Oculus Rift, Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR. The game can be downloaded free of charge from the Oculus website in the Go- respectively Rift variant download.
