Fishing rubbish from the Warnow with VR

The Fraunhofer Institute IGD will be demonstrating the potential of virtual reality to the public in a playful way at the citizens' festival to mark the Day of German Unity.

While large-scale projects such as "The Ocean Cleanup" are doing their best in the world's oceans, the Frauenhofer Institute wanted to use its stand to raise awareness of the fact that every individual can make a difference on their own river. In the virtual reality game developed for this purpose, the Warnow has to be cleared of plastic waste - on board a small cutter and armed only with a quiver, a pretty shaky affair.

"The game won't make German rivers any cleaner, but our virtual reality solutions are primarily used for training scenarios. Whether in paramedic training or engineering training - VR offers the opportunity to recreate global scenarios. And perhaps one day even interplanetary - we have already virtually recreated the ISS space station for budding astronauts," reads the IGD press release.
