In the UK, a hospital wants to find out whether VR glasses make births easier.
Women can use the devices to view 360-degree landscapes or underwater worlds, which should help them relax. The BBC reports from an experiment at a hospital in Cardiff (Wales). The aim is to reduce pain with the help of virtual reality. So far, there have only been a few test runs.
Midwives believe the technology can help - especially if labour is still at an early stage or for women who have been traumatised by a previous birth. One of the manufacturers told the BBC that the VR goggles could also be good for other patients to escape the hospital atmosphere for a while.
