Inter-Dream - VR light show for falling asleep

Artists and researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University have developed a virtual reality tool to stimulate sleep.

Modern technology may improve our lives in many ways, but studies are also certain: our sleep suffers as a result. Even wearables that are supposed to improve our sleep can end up being a reason for insomnia. However, a virtual reality tool now aims to stimulate sleep.

Inter-Dream was actually developed by artists and researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University as an art project, it was meant to support creative activities and meditation. Inter-Dream combines ambient music, also called white noise, and kaleidoscopic visuals. These are controlled by the user's brainwaves. Studies have now shown that the technology can also be used to fall asleep. Its practicality has yet to be proven; wearing a VR headset while sleeping could well be off-putting for many users.
