Sandbox VR has teamed up with CBS to develop a VR arcade experience for the TV series "Star Trek Discovery". The game in question is "Star Trek Discovery: Away Mission".
The name of "Star Trek Discovery: Away Mission" already hints at it: Up to six players form an away team to respond to a distress call from a lost spaceship. Using tricorders and phasers, the players follow up the call, with the set-up being staged like walking into a holodeck. The mission is led by Sylvia Tilly (played by Mary Wiseman).
You can move freely in the VR experience, which lasts around 30 minutes. Body movements are fully recorded, but you do not interact with physical objects. While there will also be battles, the focus is on the puzzles, which are to be solved as a group.
The first teaser trailer, which is structured like the intro to the series, unfortunately does not yet provide any concrete insights. "Star Trek Discovery: Away Mission" will initially start in autumn 2019 at locations in Hong Kong, San Francisco and Los Angeles. New York, Austin, San Diego and Chicago will follow shortly afterwards.
