The Swiss digital agency Nexum has realised an AR application to make building owners aware of dangers.
The tablet-based AR app was designed for use by the prevention advisors of Graubünden Buildings Insurance (GVG). It enables local advisors to show building owners the effects of flooding - for example due to heavy rain or water overflowing its banks. The AR app can also be used at GVG information and training events.
The consultant can point the tablet camera at a critical area on the outside of the building in terms of flooding, use a simple scanning process to capture relevant reference points in the affected area and thus define a virtual flood plane. He then has the option of virtually "flooding" the defined area on the tablet screen at the touch of a button. The consultant can then virtually place various building protection measures available in the app, such as raised light wells or water protection gates, and explain their effect in dialogue with the building owner using the simulated flooding situation.
In addition to the live simulation on site, the app also offers a special mode in which the dangers of flooding and the effect of corresponding building protection measures can be demonstrated using a completely virtual building model.
Nexum developed the AR solution, which has been in active use since spring 2019, in an agile conception, design and implementation process over various iterations until it was ready for use. An interdisciplinary team of experts from the fields of UX conception, design and AR and VR development were deployed. The exchange with the prevention experts at GVG, who Nexum actively involved in the development of the solution, also took centre stage.
