Journey For Elysium focuses on suspense in VR

The two Belgian companies Cronos Interactive and Mantis Games are currently working on the narrative-based VR title "Journey For Elysium"which is inspired by classical Greek and Roman mythology.

The current dev diary "Genesis" goes back to the origins of the project. An accompanying Origins article was also published. This blog post sheds light on the founding of Mantis Games and discusses the development of "Journey For Elysium", which will be released for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in the fourth quarter of 2019.

In "Journey For Elysium", you take on the role of a nameless hero who has died. He finds himself on a boat travelling towards the underworld. You are caught between life and death. The developers on the gameplay: "To reach Elysium and thus salvation, the mysterious traveller must put his wits and skills to the test in a series of increasingly complex challenges and twists. The further he progresses, the more he learns about his past."

Features of Journey For Elysium

  • Exciting puzzles: Journey for Elysium brings the excitement of classic adventures from the 90s into a new era. To advance the plot, a series of increasingly complex puzzles must be solved and various challenges and trials passed.
  • Lots to discover: A complex game world rooted in history and myth. Breathtaking environments and surprising facts about classical antiquity await players.
  • Game mechanics: The most important game mechanic, travelling on the River Styx, enables a natural method of transport through the underworld, which provides a strong immersion - regardless of whether the player is sitting or standing.
  • Two modes: Two different modes, comfort and intensive mode, allow different ways of getting around apart from rowing.
  • Graphic style: The title impresses with its black and white look, which is inspired by the paintings of Gustave Doré and is particularly suitable for creating the dark atmosphere of the underworld thanks to its high-contrast presentation. There are also golden markings here and there that act as signposts.
