VR snorkelling at the Wasserwelt leisure pool

Wasserwelt has become a little more digital with VR snorkelling. Bathers can now experience this extraordinary offer at another location, namely the Wasserwelt resort in Braunschweig, Germany, literally blurring the boundaries between reality and virtuality.

VR snorkelling at the Wasserwelt leisure pool blurs the boundaries between the virtual and real worlds. With the new offer, guests experience various 360° applications that are played on an innovative diving mask. A section of the pool is reserved especially for this breathtaking snorkelling experience.
Waterproof masks with a display on which 360-degree applications are played are available for the experience. The guest floats on their stomach on the water as if snorkelling, looking downwards. If the user moves their head, the mask recognises this and the virtual viewing direction follows the corresponding head movement. Together with the high-resolution display and the recorded underwater sound, this creates a breathtaking experience. The concept is not new. Two other providers have already invited guests to try it out, as we did reported.

High above and low below

With this offer, Wasserwelt is initially launching two different programmes for guests to choose from. These are called "Ocean" and "Space". Depending on which programme they choose, guests can either embark on a journey through coral reefs and shipwrecks, curiously accompanied by turtles, manta rays, colourful fish and mighty whales, or experience weightlessness while floating in space with a view of various planets and move through a space station like astronauts. Further virtual experiences are already being planned.

Bookable from the end of May

Especially when gliding through space, floating in the water intensifies the feeling of weightlessness and allows the guest to emerge with an astonished smile. The programmes played last just under five minutes each. Anyone wishing to try out this world first can book VR snorkelling directly at the Wasserwelt ticket office for just 4 euros in addition to admission. To prevent virtual world guests from getting in the way of other guests or facilities, VR snorkelling takes place in the active pool. Snorkellers are secured with a harness and can therefore float undisturbed in their own area of the pool. The course can be booked from the end of May.
