Alibaba buys Israeli VR start-up Infinity Augmented Reality

The Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group Holding acquires the Israel-based virtual reality start-up Infinity Augmented Reality.

The Alibaba Group acquires the Israeli software company Infinity Augmented Reality, a start-up specialising in the development of virtual reality technologies.

Infinity Augmented Reality was founded in 2013 and develops technologies to connect virtual reality with the real world. Infinity offers software for ODMs and OEMs as well as an SDK plug-in for 3D engines.

Alibaba has been working with the Israeli start-up in the fields of augmented reality, computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) since 2016. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price for Infinity Augmented Reality.

The Alibaba Group made a big leap in the field of virtual reality (VR) with its investment in Magic Leap. The Chinese e-commerce giant also set up a new research lab in China that specialises in VR.

Generally speaking, VR is already a big thing in China and is constantly on the rise, as we have seen in various Reports have already shown.
