The VR Film Studio Google Spotlight Stories is unfortunately being closed. This is a great pity, but the employees will probably not automatically be dismissed. They will apparently be given the chance to find employment in other positions within the group.
"Google Spotlight Stories is closing its doors after more than six years of writing and publishing stories on smartphones, screens, in VR and anywhere else we could get away with it," said Karen Dufilho, executive producer at Google Spotlight Stories. The VR studio is known for "Age of Sail", "Back to the Moon", "Son of Jaguar" and "Pearl", among others.
Google's statement: "Since its inception, Spotlight Stories has strived to reshape VR storytelling. From ambitious shorts like Son of Jaguar, Sonaria and Back to the Moon, to high-profile critical acclaim for Pearl (Emmy winner and first VR film nominated for an Oscar), the Spotlight Stories team has made a lasting impact on immersive storytelling. We're proud of the work the team has done over the years."
