Diavolezza Lagalb AG has recently started offering its summer guests a free virtual insight into the winter season.
Winding down fresh snow slopes, daringly jumping over metre-high jumps or conquering the east ridge of Piz Palü with crampons and ice axe. This is pure adventure and not for the faint-hearted. You can now experience all of this safely all year round with VR.
The first mountain railway in Switzerland to offer Diavolezza Lagalb AG is now offering its summer guests virtual insights into the winter season. Using virtual reality goggles, they can discover the steel-blue sky above the breathtaking mountain landscape on the Diavolezza even in poor visibility, ski, let off steam in the fun park or become ski tourers, mountaineers and freeriders.
Winter beauty even in fog
On the Diavolezza, hikers and sun worshippers can enjoy the highest VR experience in the world: you can borrow VR glasses free of charge from reception at the Berghaus Diavolezza, make yourself comfortable in the swivel chairs and enjoy the fabulous mountain world of the Upper Engadine for a good 6.5 minutes. This allows you to experience the pure beauty of the "she-devil" mountain, even if it happens to be covered in mist.
"We can offer our guests a lot. But not two things: a guarantee of good weather and snow sports in summer," says Project Manager Nicolà Michael from Corvatsch AG. "With the VR experience on the Diavolezza, we can now do that, at least virtually."
Winter is also winter on the Diavolezza in summer
The Diavolezza, with its view of the "Festival Hall of the Alps" including Piz Bernina and Piz Palü, is a popular excursion destination for guests from all over the world. Urs Langenegger from Bandara VR GmbH and producer of the VR film, which celebrated its premiere today, emphasises: "People come to the Diavolezza in summer, are impressed by the magnificent view and inevitably wonder what it looks like here in winter. Thanks to the VR film, they can now not only see it, but experience it."
The 360° video places the viewer at the centre of the action-packed snow sports scenes. "Many excursion guests are not necessarily winter sports enthusiasts. With this experience, we want to show them the beauty and fascination of the Engadin winter and encourage them to visit us in the cold season too," adds Nicolà Michael.
Mountain guide Gian Luck and his colleagues from the Pontresina mountaineering school realised some of the shots. "The biggest challenge was to do justice to the beauty of nature with the shots," he says. The fantastic aerial shots were taken in collaboration with helicopter pilot Jürg Denoth from Swiss Helicopter AG. "It was a special pleasure and honour for me to capture my homeland from above for the guests," he says. "Because for me, there's nothing better than a scenic flight over the fabulous mountains of the Upper Engadine. Whether in summer or winter!"
