Realistic flight simulations are still quite rare on VR platforms, but now fans of the genre can look forward to "Flying Aces: Navy Pilot Simulator". The title will be released on 11 October 2018 via Steam will be released for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
"Flying Aces: Navy Pilot Simulator" is, according to the developers at TAS Systems, a story-based VR experience that lets you experience what it's like to train as a naval pilot. "We've wanted to develop a real pilot simulator for a long time, but it wasn't possible until the advent of virtual reality," say the creators. "Our aim is to create a lifelike experience, as opposed to a game."
In "Flying Aces: Navy Pilot Simulator", good hand-eye coordination is a prerequisite, although motion control is not necessarily used. Of course, you start as a novice and slowly work your way up through the exercises. The title takes you through basic take-off missions, missile target exercises and complicated carrier landings during a storm. Variable weather conditions, a realistic damage model and a detailed physics engine are designed to impress.
