Virtual reality for the medical studies of tomorrow

Vireed Med, the medical VR education platform for students, doctors and professionals, will launch a trial next year. The aim is to use the application for social and professional exchange and learning, but also for training and simulating medical interventions and emergency simulations.

The Hamburg Start-up Vireed stands for Virtual Reality Education and has launched the Vireed Med project. Together with the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf, a study with around 400 medical students will be launched from 2019.

The aim is to make students from the first semester fit for everyday clinical practice with virtual reality training. Among other things, it will be possible to look over a surgeon's shoulder during an operation via livestream. Furthermore, the focus is on exercises in life-saving measures; for example, how to behave correctly in the event of cardiac arrest and which measures have to be applied to save patients' lives.

After the training is completed, our focus is also on continuing and further education as well as compulsory training. So the goal is to reach not only students, but also doctors and medical professionals from other fields. For example, from nursing.

The short clip gives an insight:

Report shows what users still have to work on

Especially practical for students: The VR applications can be used practically anywhere, even from home, without endangering a real human life in the process. The reporting tool creates a personal performance protocol after completion, which shows the achievements made, but above all also existing deficits. With VIREED MED, users are thus better and fully prepared for everyday life in the field of medicine.

The entire process has already been tested in practice: "Through the close exchange with our partners, our platform is continuously used by doctors and students. The feedback is very positive. Of course, a bit of imagination always counts as well, since our platform will still be in development for a while," says Vireed CEO Nick Wiese.
