Swiss VR start-up continues on course for success - another gives up

The Swiss start-up trueVRsystems is on an expansion course and is venturing into neighbouring and distant countries. However, the VR Arena in Zurich is closing its doors again.

It is a mistake to believe that only hardcore gamers are interested in high-end VR games, says Fabian Freund, co-founder and CTO of trueVRsystems. And he could be right.

VR arcades are currently springing up all over the world. The Swiss company trueVRsystems, which has its roots in Dietlikon, is way ahead of the game. The young company is already supplying its content to a VR arcade in Germany and four VR arcades in Switzerland - including the Fusion Arena in Zurich. They operate two of them themselves. The two tech freaks have been saying for some time that they would like to expand even further abroad.

From Stockholm to Santiago

Now you've done it: Stockholm now has a modular 2 x 150m2 system that can be combined to create a large 300m2 arena.

And that's not all! After completion of the Swedish arena, trueVRsystems will add another 150m2 system in a luxury hotel in Santiago, Chile, to its portfolio as a licence partner. The hotel is part of a chain, which of course opens up further opportunities if successful.

Philip Lacoste, co-founder and CEO, comments on the expansion: "Each of our operating centres brings us a new and exciting operational and technical perspective." Basically, everything is now so advanced that their solution can be used anywhere without any adjustments. All trueVRsystems platforms can now support up to 10 players, who can walk around freely with full-body tracking. If only the head and weapons are tracked, it is even 16 people. Well then, the big VR party can start soon worldwide.

While some expand, others have to close

Unfortunately, we received the sad news that the VR Arena in Zurich, which unfortunately had to close the VR area of the Megaarena (paintball and laser tag operator) for reasons of profitability. Even in comparison, they performed somewhat less well than the VR centre in Dietlikon. It really does take a very good concept and good content to gain a foothold in the VR sector.
