Panic, Art and Virtual Reality with Udo Lindenberg

In Hamburg, the life and work of Udo Lindenberg is to be brought to life in a multimedia museum. In addition to VR and AR, admission to Panik City also includes a glass of eggnog.

Udo Lindenberg is expanding. In his adopted home of Hamburg, the self-proclaimed panic rocker is opening his own little city - the multimedia virtual-real 3DPanic City. A 700 square metre multimedia experience with audio and video installations, panoramic walls and virtual reality will connect the artist's life and work with German history. Panik City is of course located on the Reeperbahn, which Lindenberg described in 2000 in the song of the same name as a "horny mile" and "gangster's moll", without which he would always be "somehow so sad".

Trip through life

Panic is one of those things: Lindenberg's band has been called "Panikorchester" for 40 years, but his motto is "Don't panic". In any case, a "trip through the stages of Udo's life" is announced and one would hope that simply putting on a pair of virtual reality glasses will not immerse you in one of the less glamorous phases of the musician's life.

Whether in the smoking lounge of his residence at the Hotel Atlantic or while painting unique liqueurs - Udo has never been experienced so closely and authentically. With the help of augmented reality and virtual reality, content from the real world is interwoven with virtual content, creating an intense Udo Lindenberg experience. Standing on stage with Udo in the VR dimension: this is also a reality at PANIK CITY.

The technology, art and culture project also includes Lindenberg's artistic work and is located on Spielbudenplatz in the Klubhaus St. Pauli run by theatre operator Corny Littmann (Schmidts Tivoli), which includes a theatre, a laser tag hall and various concert and party venues.

Panik City opened its doors to the public on 20 March. Up to 800 visitors are expected every day. The standard price of 18.50 euros includes a guided tour lasting around 90 minutes as well as a voucher for a glass of Udo's favourite drink: eggnog. Another reason to travel to Hamburg again!
