Pupils from the municipal girls' secondary school in Rosenheim regularly visit a friendly school in China using virtual reality glasses and a 360-degree camera - completely digitally.
The Rosenheim school has purchased a total of 15 VR glasses - with which the girls can virtually "beam" themselves to China. There, they are guided by the young Chinese through their school or the city, for example.
"At first, I found it a bit strange that a video like this is so close to you. That you can turn round and see what's behind you. It's really amazing how advanced the technology is that you can see everything like that," said one pupil.
Of course, it works the other way round too: the Rosenheim students filmed in their classroom and at the Christmas market, some of them in two languages. The videos were then sent to the exchange school in Mianyang. The students want to shoot a total of fifty 360-degree videos by spring.
With this pilot project, both schools want to try out whether the digital student exchange 2.0 is beneficial for everyone involved. A documentation will then summarise the experiences and perhaps such a project will be offered at other schools.
