VR experience from Adidas: Climb like the pros

Adidas provides outdoor fans with a VR climbing experience to promote its outdoor brand Terrex: users can climb a mountain in Corsica together with two climbing cracks.

Outdoor fans can feel like professional climbers - the sporting goods manufacturer Adidas makes sure of that. In May, the company from Herzogenaurach accompanied the climbing pros Delaney Miller and Ben Rueck to Corsica. There, they tackled the "Delicatessen" route on the Col de Bavella. The two did not reach the lofty heights alone: A total of 16 GoPros recorded the athletes' tour. A photographer also accompanied them.

The team also teamed up with Google. The internet company bundles some tools for VR and 360-degree videos, including camera supports, under the name Google Jump. The company also plans to turn the Corsica footage into a "Google Expedition" - for use in schools.

The mountain sports brand Adidas Terrex is going to such lengths to offer customers a VR experience. For this, the curious are given VR headsets in the hands of some Adidas shops. The idea is to give them an impression of what it's like to take on the climb and learn a few climbing tricks at the same time. Those who want to take part in one of the toughest climbs in Corsica and climb to the top should have strong nerves and, above all, no fear of heights.

For the time being, the VR experience will be on display for testing in various cities in China. In addition, Europeans will also be able to enjoy the climbing experience, among others at the Kendal Mountan Festival in England from 16 to 19 November. Further ports of call are to follow in Europe.
