Studio Playsnak and Oculus have announced the VR adventure "Shaman: Spirithunter", which will be released exclusively for Oculus Rift in 2018. Former Crytek veterans who were already involved in "The Climb" and "Robinson: The Journey" are working on it.
In "Shaman: Spirithunter" you take on the role of an aspiring shaman whose tribe is destroyed when winter takes the land in its icy grip. Along the way you discover the shaman's greatest gift, his ability to change appearance and take on the form of wild animals, each offering different ways to survive in this world. The greater the shaman's powers become, the more creatures the protagonist can transform into.
The game also introduces a camera system that is intended to provide a new perspective in virtual reality. According to the developers: "You follow your enemies in the chaser perspective, take down evil spirits with bow and arrow in the classic first-person perspective and explore the environment from a steep angle in the locomotion perspective." A first trailer provides impressions.
Martin L'Heureux, the game director of Shaman: Spirithunter, describes the game as follows: "We set out to create a game that combines a compelling storyline with innovative ideas. VR allows us to explore a lot of uncharted territory, and Shaman: Spirithunter not only showcases the team's development expertise, but also our desire to take players to places they've never seen before."
