Electrolux Professional presents kitchen planning in VR

The manufacturer Electrolux Professional has tackled the problem of optimal kitchen planning and is presenting a VR solution at the igeho trade fair in Basel.

In the catering industry, time is worth its weight in gold. And that's why Electrolux Professional has been looking for a new solution for kitchen planning that will reduce sources of error.

Electrolux Professional plans to show a new VR solution at the upcoming Swiss trade fair igeho in Basel. As an example, the company cites the problem of having planned too little space for important work areas. Or left-handed people notice that a cupboard door opens in an unfavourable direction, as the Swiss company's sales manager Daniel Hungerbühler announces.

Thanks to virtual reality, this is now to be put to an end and in future, armed with VR glasses, people will be able to test the future kitchen and check it for compliance with safety regulations.

Daniel Hungerbühler: "With the virtual kitchen, chefs can go through the whole process from ordering the menu to serving the plates as if it were real." This means that long before the kitchen components are manufactured, configured and set up, it can be determined whether the kitchen really suits the client and is efficiently designed. Safety regulations can also be checked with the VR solution.

And the kitchen supplier also mentions another advantage: You can save yourself a trip to the manufacturer's showroom, because it now comes to the customer.

Electrolux Professional has chosen the leading Swiss provider of CAD/CAM solutions "Man and machine"was commissioned to develop the VR solution. In the process, the specialist for animation, simulation and modelling converts the CAD data of a kitchen plan into the VR tool, which is available in the form of an app.

If you feel like it and would like to take a look at the virtual kitchen for real: The igeho will take place in Basel from 18 to 22 November.

However, the idea is not entirely new: Saturn offers virtual kitchen planning for private customers in selected stores. The electronics store relies on the HTC Vive.
