If you want to explore dark and fascinating caves in virtual reality, then "Echo Grotto", which has been released for HTC Vive, is just the thing for you. The VR experience was developed by the New Zealand studio Gaugepunk Games ("Frontier VR").
The cave systems in "Echo Grotto" are procedurally generated, but the basic elements were created by hand by the developers. Every time you restart the VR experience, different caves are created. While glowworms light up the caverns, you can look forward to underwater areas with tunnels, sulphur ponds, deep chasms and much more. You can also customise which little animals you encounter.
Before exploring, however, you need to take care of your equipment. Should you choose a lantern or a head torch? Grappling hooks open up new areas and if you want to dive, you need a snorkel. Light trails, on the other hand, help with orientation. In experience mode, all tools are available right from the start. In a second game mode, the focus is on a progression system in which better equipment must first be unlocked. The gameplay trailer provides some impressions.
