The new Condé Nast entertainment show Virtually Dating shows what a blind date in VR can be like.
Singles looking for a partner sometimes find it really difficult: where do you find the right person and what is the best way to start a conversation? Most people try the well-known online dating sites and the classic blind dates that follow.
There are plenty of shrewd entrepreneurs who are making a killing in the singles market, and they don't stop at the virtual world either. We have already reported on the platform FlirtAR where you can do the live check and also learn about Sugardaddy VRwhere the name says it all.
A new Condé Nast entertainment show with the simple name Virtually Dating points out Facebook now how things can go down on a blind date in VR. The series started the week before last with the protagonists Shelby and John; an attractive happy-go-lucky couple who are obviously of the more extroverted variety.
Quality leaves a lot to be desired
In the video, you can see how the first contact is not quite so easy due to the rather poor quality of the application. Before being placed in the same real room, the two were scanned separately in 3D so that they could see each other in VR. The clip, which lasts around 8 minutes, shows the two of them familiarising themselves with virtual reality and goofing around together in the different worlds. John thinks he looks quite weird, but at least his bum looks good. To which Shelby replies that this is unfair, because her backside is not equally well represented.
The two get on really well together and get closer during a dance. So it's not surprising that the couple decide to continue. Because at the end of the virtual date, the couple are asked if they would like to see each other in real life.
You see; even in the virtual world, dating can be fraught with complications.
