Catan GmbH, Catan Studio, Asmodee Digital and VR game developer Experiment 7 have announced a partnership to bring the famous board game "The Settlers of Catan" into virtual reality.
A captivating and new version of the board game is promised for "Catan VR", which will be released for Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR at Christmas 2017. Other VR systems will follow over time. According to the creators, "Catan VR" remains true to the classic, but the game has been optimised for virtual reality so that users can experience the action in a completely new way. "Catan VR" is being developed together with Klaus and Benjamin Teuber which is why fans can be reassured about the quality.
The press release states: "Whether you're playing against players from around the world or against characters from Catan, the island comes to life for the first time in VR thanks to beautiful game environments and cross-platform play features. Catan VR was developed together with Klaus and Benjamin Teuber and the Catan and Asmodee Digital teams and does everything that board game lovers love about the game."
"When I saw Catan on the Magic Table for the first time, I was fascinated by what VR had to offer," says "Catan" creator Klaus Teuber. "The game that I designed 25 years ago with my family in the living room now even in virtual reality? Unbelievable. Back then, when we were making the cardboard maps and dreaming of exploring new lands, it was beyond my imagination that one day I would be able to immerse myself virtually in the world of Catan."
