Ready Player One: Steven Spielberg's VR film

On the Comic-Con in San Diego a first trailer for "Ready Player One" was shown. Warner Bros. and director Steven Spielberg take on a new challenge in the Film adaptation of the novel The film addresses the topic of virtual reality, although the film cannot be viewed directly in VR.

In the year 2045, the world has become a desolate place and many people are fleeing into virtual reality, including the protagonist Wade Watts. This place of refuge is called OASIS. Here you can experience all kinds of virtual adventures. The trailer is a cinematic and pop-cultural firework display featuring many heroes and brands from the 1980s and 1990s.

If you look closely, you'll recognise Freddy Krueger, the DeLorean from "Back to the Future", Duke Nukem, the A-Team van, the scorpion from "Centipede", the motorbike from "Akira", the Assault Rifle from "Halo", Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, the giant from outer space and much more.

It will therefore be interesting to see how exactly "Ready Player One" will depict and describe virtual reality. The film could also anchor VR more firmly in the public consciousness. "Ready Player One" will be released in cinemas in March 2018.
