VR controller Knuckles captures individual fingers

Valve Software is currently working on the "SteamVR Knuckles Controller", which takes an exciting approach. Several capacitive sensors in the controller handle detect the position and orientation of individual fingers. To calibrate the recognition of the fingers, the hand only needs to be opened and closed quickly. Valve demonstrates this at the official Steam page.

Valve promises that the "Knuckles" controller will enable more natural interaction with virtual objects. This involves gripping objects, for example. However, hand gestures can also be displayed. The middle finger sends its regards. "Knuckles" has a trackpad, three buttons and a trigger. The battery life is around three hours and it is charged via USB.

An HTC Vive system with Lighthouse is required for "Knuckles". Development is apparently progressing well, as it is reported that prototypes have already been awarded to external people and software developers. It will therefore be interesting to see how the first games and applications will utilise this technology. Unfortunately, it is not known when "Knuckles" will officially go on sale.
