Bethesda organised a press conference as part of the E3 2017 in Los Angeles and announced the shooter "Doom VFR" for HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. The release will take place later this year. In "Doom VFR", the demons from hell have once again wreaked havoc in the UAC research facility on Mars. As the last human survivor, you have to make the station operational and stop the demonic invasion.
In "Doom VFR", which was specially developed for VR headsets, classic "Doom" weapons are offered as well as the ability to teleport and jet-punish jumps. You don't move like in regular "Doom", but teleport to certain locations. This can be seen quite well in the brutally staged gameplay trailer. In addition, two never-before-seen areas of the UAC research facility are visited.
"Developing a Doom game specifically for virtual reality has opened up exciting new possibilities. Not only can players now fully immerse themselves in the world of Doom, they can now experience and explore the UAC and Hell in new ways. All in the role of a new character with completely unique tools and abilities," said Robert Duffy, CTO of id Software.
"With combat at the centre of Doom, we've made sure that moving, shooting and taking down demons with overwhelming power is just as brutal and fun in virtual reality as it was in the Doom that wowed players last year," adds game director Marty Stratton.
