FoxNext, a fairly new entertainment division of 20th Century Fox, brings the deadly Xenomorphs from the "Alien" universe into virtual reality. This is a VR multiplayer experience for four players that aims to convince with haptic effects and moving platforms. Even heat is represented. The whole thing is set up in an environment of about 185 square metres. So it's not about home use. FoxNext is aimed more at a Mixed reality experience in amusement parks and amusement arcades.
"The Hollywood Reporter" was already able to play an early demo of the new "Alien" VR experience, which was based on Samsung Gear VR. Armed with a target controller, it was off to battle. The action took place in an "Alien" cave and even flying enemies were fended off via hand tracking. It was possible to move freely in the "Alien" world. The VR experience should be playable from the end of the year. According to FoxNext President Salil Mehta, the new technology provides the opportunity to revolutionise the way stories are told in the future.
