Analysts see PlayStation VR ahead

The analysts at SuperData have new Sales figures for the VR market, although these have not been confirmed by the manufacturers. However, SuperData is usually very close. In mid-February 2017, Sony announced that PlayStation VR had sold around 915,000 units in the first four months. According to SuperData, PSVR sold 375,000 units in the first quarter of 2017 alone. A whopping 2.6 million PSVR sales are expected for the rest of the year.

This means that PlayStation VR clearly dominates the competition: Oculus Rift only sold 64,000 units in the first quarter of 2017. HTC Vive still managed to sell 95,000 units. Despite Oculus Rift's price reduction, HTC Vive is still able to keep its competitor at bay. In 2017 as a whole, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift are expected to sell 553,000 and 356,000 units respectively, at least according to SuperData's forecast. This fits in with the Messagethat Sony wants to ramp up the production of PlayStation VR.
