360-degree documentary on resocialisation of offenders

Facebook has now launched the 360-degree docu "Step to the Line" about a non-profit organisation that helps with the rehabilitation of offenders. The documentary states that two out of three prisoners reoffend within the first three years and have to return to prison. They also have an unemployment rate of over 60 per cent.

The non-profit organisation "Defy Venture" helps former prisoners. According to the information in the film, 95 per cent are helped to find a new job and the recidivism rate for a criminal offence is said to fall to just three per cent. In "Step to the Line", we spend a few minutes in Pelican Bay State Prison in California and see the mentors talking to the inmates.

"Step to the Line" is like "Notes to my Father" as part of the Oculus initiative "VR for Good" was created. Oculus writes: "We launched VR for Good in 2016 with ten up-and-coming filmmakers who we brought together with ten non-profit organisations. Together, they are championing social projects and telling their stories in VR. Each team took part in our VR for Good boot camp. Here, mentors and experts gave practical advice on VR film production and supported the development and realisation of ideas." The 360-degree work is available at Facebook available for viewing. The "VR for Good" projects are also published in the Oculus video app.
