Pokémon GO boss worried: VR could become "too good"

Virtual reality is playing an increasingly important role in gaming and entertainment. This also raises concerns. John Hanke, the CEO of Niantic Labs, the "Pokémon GO" said at the Mixed Reality Summit in London that VR has the potential to become "too good". It could become harmful to our society. At the same time, he warned of the consequences of excessive VR consumption. "Pokémon GO" with the AR concept on the other hand, is praised by him because it encourages people to move around outdoors, unlike VR.

"With VR, I fear that it could become too good. In the sense that people want to spend a lot of time in VR experiences. I already worry about my kids playing too much Minecraft, even though it's a wonderful game," says John Hanke. "We're human beings and there's a lot of research that shows we're much happier when we're physically active and outside in nature. I think it could become a problem for us as a society if we give that up and spend all our time in a 'Ready Player One'-style VR universe."
