Playing in the sandbox in a different way

Enter the Sandbox - sounds almost as good as Enter the Sandman by Metallica and goes down at least as well. Audi shows how strong VR brand content works with an ingenious VR application.

Playing in the sandpit is definitely not only entertaining for children with this application. Together with the creative agency POL and the production studio MediaMonks the car manufacturer Audi in Norway has developed a virtual reality experience in which users have fun as drivers in a sandpit.

 

The highlight is the link between the real world and virtual reality. Firstly, users can create their own race track in a real sandpit. This course is then scanned with an infrared camera. The data is then translated into a VR animation with all the bends, tunnels and hills. The floor of the sandpit then quickly becomes a lake in VR. After recording the terrain, users can then race along their personalised route in a miniature Q5. Simply brilliant!
