PlayStation VR was difficult to find in shops in the first few months because Sony simply underestimated the demand. As Andrew House, Global Chief Executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has now told the New York Times the VR headset sold 915,000 units to consumers worldwide in around four months (as of 19 February 2017). Sony's plan for the release was for PlayStation VR to sell around one million units within six months. This target should be easily achieved.
"Since its launch in October, PSVR has been well received by people around the world thanks to the high quality and revolutionary VR experience on offer. With more than 53.4 million PS4 consoles sold worldwide, we believe that PlayStation VR will take the lead in the VR market," said Andrew House, who also promised that PSVR production will be increased to meet demand. PlayStation VR will also continue to be supported with suitable software.
Over 100 VR titles are already available for PlayStation VR and more than 220 further products are in development. At the same time, Sony has announced over Twitter confirms that the promising VR shooter "Farpoint" will be launched on 16 May 2017, including the "PlayStation VR Aim Controller". This is a peripheral in which the PS Move controller is inserted. The whole thing is designed to simulate a rifle.
