Halcyon, the first hybrid TV series on SyFy, was launched on 22 September. This is a step into new territory in film-making. Together with Oculus Rift, SyFy has created a series consisting of 10 conventional and 5 VR episodes. The 5 VR episodes can be viewed online or via the app. The viewer must also interact with the main characters and help solve the case. If you don't have VR glasses, you can also watch the VR episodes online in a normal version.

„Die Geschichte von Halcyon spielt im Jahr 2040. Blake Creighton (Michael Therriault) ist der Geschäftsführer der weltweit einflussreichsten Virtual Reality Firma: Halcyon. Dem Unternehmen war es schnell möglich die sperrigen VR-Brillen gegen Neuro-Implantate auszutauschen, die die Sinne ihres Trägers manipulieren können. Nun stehen sie kurz davor, auch den Tastsinn in der Virtual Reality freizuschalten. Als Creighton tot aufgefunden wird, werden Detective Jules Dover (Lisa Marcos) und ihre virtuelle Partnerin Asha (Harveen Sandhu) auf den Fall angesetzt. Während ihrer Ermittlungen finden sie Hinweise darauf, dass Creighton in der Virtual Reality ermordet wurde – ohne Tastsinn eigentlich unmöglich…“
There will certainly be more projects like this in the future. Perhaps this will even become the standard for TV series in the future. After all, it's a much more intense experience when you're part of the story. Imagine going into battle alongside Jon Snow in Game of Thrones or fleeing from zombies with Rick in The Walking Dead. We are definitely looking forward to these experiences.
