Virtual reality snorkelling at Nettebad

Virtual reality diving goggles make it possible: On 17 and 18 November, visitors to the Nettebad can go on a virtual snorkelling trip. Thanks to state-of-the-art VR technology, the course pool of the leisure pool will be transformed into a colourful sea world.

"Never before has it been possible to 'dive' into a virtual reality in the truest sense of the word," explains Nettebad manager Tilo Schölzel. The combination of VR technology and diving is absolutely new and is being offered for the first time in Germany at the Nettebad in Osnabrück. "All in all, our bathers will snorkel through three different underwater themed worlds during the event weekend.

All-round view and gives them a feeling of weightlessness when they dive down. "Since the snorkellers will be in their very own virtual world, so to speak, we equip them with a special swimming belt including a weighting weight in addition to the VR diving goggles," explains Schölzel. This could prevent collisions between the bathers during the dive, as they are virtually snorkelling on the spot within a small radius of movement. "Thanks to the detailed representation of the virtual underwater world, the participants still have the impression that they are swimming out to sea to turtles and whales, are eye-to-eye with dangerous sharks or snorkelling past colourful coral reefs," the Nettebad manager gives a hint about the different VR scenarios.

45 minutes snorkelling excursion

A virtual snorkelling trip in the Nettebad lasts a total of 4.5 minutes - but feels like around ten minutes, according to Schölzel. The VR equipment can be borrowed directly from the supervisory staff for three euros. Prior registration is not necessary. A total of ten people can take part per dive.
