The VR boat with an anti-war message

"The boat" from 1981 is considered a milestone in German film history and is still one of the most internationally successful cinema films from Germany. The anti-war epic is about a German submarine crew during the Second World War. Das Boot VR" has now been confirmed.

From the end of 2018, "Das Boot" will be continued as a TV series in an international co-production by Sky, Sonar Entertainment and Bavaria Fernsehproduktion. A VR game will be released to go with it (platforms have not yet been named). The virtual reality game is being developed by remote control productions developed. The close collaboration with Bavaria Fernsehproduktion is intended to guarantee that the gaming experience perfectly reflects the legendary film and the future TV series. The anti-war message is particularly important to the developers: "VR technology makes it possible to visualise the brutality of war in an impressive way. The story of Das Boot lends itself perfectly to a narrative VR experience like no other literary or cinematic theme."

Hendrik Lesser, CEO of remote control productions, said: "It makes us proud to open up one of the strongest German film IPs ever for the gaming world. We were thrilled by the huge interest from the industry. We were overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback we received immediately after the announcement last week. The combination of a legendary brand like Das Boot with an exciting technology like VR has already attracted a lot of potential partners... and this is just the beginning! As we see Das Boot as a long-term commitment, we are already evaluating possible transfers to other platforms. Our thanks go above all to Bavaria Fernsehproduktion, who trusted us as a partner in the realisation of the project, and to the FFF, who laid the foundations for the development with their funding. We are now looking forward to driving the project forward with partners from the games industry. Partner enquiries are always welcome!"
