Leak: PlayStation VR2 with OLED, 4K & HDR

Reportedly, but not officially confirmed, Sony Interactive Entertainment recently held a developer meeting where new information about PlayStation VR2 was presented.

According to reports, the VR headset will have HDR OLED technology. 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye at a total resolution of 4K are thus possible. The field of view will be increased by 10 degrees to 110 degrees compared to the current PlayStation VR model. Furthermore, it is said that PSVR2 will use a "flexible scaling" technique. In this way, only what you actually see will be rendered. With this technique, Sony could reduce the load on the PlayStation 5 and significantly improve the overall performance of the system.

The new controllers will be equipped with sensors that not only recognise when you touch the controller, but also detect the exact position of your fingers. The controller will also be able to detect how far away the fingers are from the device.

When it comes to games, Sony is reportedly pushing for a hybrid model in future AAA games. This means that there will be more games with optional VR support, similar to No Man's Sky, Hitman 3 or Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. PlayStation VR2 could be launched in autumn 2022.
