Niantic, known for "Pokémon Go" and "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite", has teamed up with Hasbro and Tomy to develop "Transformers: Heavy Metal", another augmented reality game for mobile devices.
In "Transformers: Heavy Metal" you join the Guardian Network to fight with the Autobots against the Decepticons. This takes place in turn-based battles, with the robots transported into the real world thanks to augmented reality technology. A soft launch is already underway in New Zealand on iOS and Android. The official site is also online. The worldwide launch is planned for the end of the year.
"The question of which other franchise we will bring to life with AR technology was quickly answered with Transformers. This incredible Transformers game will stand out among the other games to that franchise because it will be an AR game based on the Niantic Lightship platform, where you can team up with Bumblebee in the real world, for example," said executive producer Phil Hong. "We've been working hard on this project with Seattle-based development studio Very Very Spaceship."
