Thun: "Bike & Walk, Let It Slow" campaign with cycling simulator

In March, the city of Thun launched its "Bike & Walk, Let It Slow" campaign. As part of several days of action, the city of Thun aims to promote considerate coexistence between pedestrians and cyclists in the pedestrian zone and on the Aarequai and Schwäbispromenade. A cycling simulator is now also being used for this purpose.

The newly developed simulator was used for the first time at the action day on Thursday a week ago. The Bern cantonal police are testing the simulator from the "Am Steuer Nie" prevention centre as part of "Bike & Walk, Let It Slow". The prevention tool uses a fixed bike and virtual reality glasses to make it possible to experience various dangerous situations and speeds.

"First and foremost, we want to prevent accidents. The campaign is a prevention measure in collaboration with the Bern cantonal police," explains Ines Attinger, Marketing Project Manager for the city of Thun. "Anyone interested can sit on a bike and experience situations using virtual reality glasses. In this way, we want to show what can happen," adds Attinger.

Tomorrow: Action day

The bike simulator is from the prevention centre "Am Steuer nie! Switzerland" prevention centre from Zurich and is currently still in the test phase. Another day of action will follow tomorrow, Saturday 29 May. The city of Thun plans to use it two more times. The plan is to set up the bike simulator again in August and September.

This is not the first prevention campaign to use VR to make cycling safer, as we have already seen in various Reports have shown.
