Unlike Sony, Microsoft has not shown much interest in virtual reality for its console so far. And it looks like it will stay that way. Xbox Scarlett (codename), Microsoft's next-gen console that will be launched in autumn 2020, will not get its own VR headset for the time being.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has let it slip that Microsoft will not focus on VR with Xbox Scarlett either. Reportedly, there is not enough interest in it. On this Phil Spencer said, "I have some issues with VR - it's isolating and I look at games as a collaborative kind of experience. We're responding to what our customers want and... nobody is asking for VR. The vast majority of our customers know that if they want a VR experience, there are many other ways to get it. We see that on PC and other places."
Phil Spencer also admitted that the decision is a matter of money, as "no one is selling millions and millions of VR units". But that could change at some point. Nevertheless, that's a pretty harsh statement. No one is asking for VR? The competition sees it a little differently, which is why Sony's Shuhei Yoshida is already amused Reacts to this has: "We often work hard to create things that no customer has asked for."
