Developer Agharta Studio has unveiled the sci-fi shooter "Stardust Odyssey", which will be released for PlayStation VR this winter and features a co-op mode. No date was given, but the first gameplay scenes can be viewed.
With "Stardust Odyssey", the makers want to avoid a conventional and hard-hitting sci-fi universe. "We wanted to create a French sci-fi universe in the style of the 80s, inspired by Möbius and Jean-Claude Meziéres, more in the direction of a fantasy world based on magic rather than industrial, advanced technology. We wanted to create a world where you can steer ships full of jewellery and objects made of primitive materials such as wood, stone, leather and gold, and they should float through space with their sails inflated by the wind. We wanted to create a warmer atmosphere in the cockpit, no cold, futuristic materials and no minimalist design, which you often find in sci-fi games," says the developer Jordan Parrin to the game.
Stardust Odyssey" therefore offers an original and exotic sci-fi look that is intended to be different from the usual representatives. Jordan Parrin adds on the design: "The key reference point for the game is the Silk Road and its trading columns that constantly travel across land and sea to conduct business - the civilisations of the Middle East, nomadic clans and ethnic groups such as the Berbers. By choosing the Silk Road as a reference point, we invite players to travel through two types of environments and atmospheres: Deserts and seas. Our ships do not fly through space, but float like boats with sails above a sea of clouds. The constant presence of sand covering hulls and cabins evokes the idea of stardust."
