VR porn, sex robots, smart toys: These new technologies are conquering the bedroom - and revolutionising our mating behaviour.
Who is digisexual, please? This novel orientation applies if one is interested primarily in technological forms of sexuality. This includes sex with robots as well as other digital forms of sex. Researchers predict that more and more people will develop these preferences in the future.
"It is safe to say that the era of immersive virtual sex has arrived," affirms Neil Mccarthur, director of the University Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics at the University of Manitoba, Canada in his Study on the topic of digisexuality. So digitalisation doesn't stop at our bedrooms either. What digital seducers can we look forward to in the future? And how do we actually deal with these new temptations?
Virtual reality porn and sex robots on the rise
VR is on the fast track everywhere - the erotic industry is also benefiting from this. According to the website Pornhub, VR porn is even expected to Fastest growing category of the online adult industry. The filmmakers' promise: the VR glasses provide 360-degree videos for a sex experience that feels particularly real. The catch: Interaction with the environment is not yet possible directly in the videos, but there are now some VR sex apps that make this possible. For even more real virtual adventures, for example, the start-up VAQSO. The Japanese have developed an odour add-on for VR glasses that emits a variety of scents to match the VR content.
Scent-wise, visually and acoustically, the virtual worlds are certainly convincing, but VR fans repeatedly complain about the lack of haptics. This is where sex robots come in: the life-size rubber dolls now not only look more and more like humans, they also behave like them. The Chinese company DS Doll Robotics, for example, develops robot heads for silicone sex dolls. These can be controlled via app or game controller. Hand-painted human facial features move in authentic facial expressions and AI ensures that the doll can speak.
Every 5th person would go to bed with a robot
Sex with a robot? More and more people think this is conceivable: The study of the future by BR, Arte, ORF and the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering has shown that one in five Germans would go to bed with a sex robot. Moreover, more than half would not mind if their own partner had sex with a robot.
Vibease or OhMiBod are intelligent vibrators that can be controlled remotely via an app. This is practical for couples who have a long-distance relationship, for example. The devices can also be activated by the partner - no matter how many kilometres lie between them. In the search for erotic inspiration, a whole new medium has also emerged: the podcast. Whether humorous, enlightening or informative - this is where the action really gets going (verbally only, of course). For example, the podcasts "Oh, baby!“, “Better than sex" or "Best friends“.
New kick - new risk?
Digital networking can therefore provide a whole new thrill - but it is often also a risk. Hackers can gain insight into the bedroom via the devices used and gain access to intimate data.
