Canadian startup Form announces a pair of goggles that allow swimmers to keep track of their time and distance.
Runners and cyclists: They can monitor their performance during sporting activities via smartphone or smartwatch. Swimmers do not have this option - or at least not yet.
Vancouver-based start-up Form wants to remedy the situation and is launching the "Form Swim Goggles" in August. The smart swimming goggles were developed over four years with the help of professional swimmers and coaches.
The glasses have a miniaturised computer "with an ultra-compact profile" and a battery that is supposed to last sixteen hours.
The display is built into the lens of the swimming goggles and shows, among other things, a stopwatch, swimming speed, distance covered and calories burned. Artificial intelligence is supposed to help collect the data.
The goggles come with an Android and iOS app that you can use to evaluate your training or send to friends. It also allows you to customise what is shown on the display and when.
Form was founded by Dan Eisenhardt, who used to swim competitively himself for many years. Eisenhardt is the founder of Recon Instruments, which develops AR displays for sports activities. He sold the company to Intel in 2015.
The Form Swim Goggles will be available from 7 August on the official websitecan be ordered. The price is 200 US dollars. Form delivers the glasses internationally.
