The world beneath the famous Blautopf in Blaubeuren is actually only accessible to speleologists. With the new SWR project "Blautopf VR", anyone can now explore this world with a pair of glasses.
Narrow breakthroughs, underwater passages, underground halls: Over the past few years, a community of speleologists has explored the widely ramified blue cave system in the Swabian Alb and brought fascinating images to light. With the project "Blautopf VR - Adventure cave worldt", SWR users can accompany the researchers into the depths of this magical place with 3D glasses and experience its beauty. Only a few people have ever entered the Blue Cave and the Vetter Cave.
Take a close look at individual cave sections
The guided explorer tour offers a fascinating all-round view of individual cave sections thanks to photogrammetric images. Together with the fictitious, experienced speleologist Paul, users dive into the depths of the Blue Cave system and receive additional information about the cave world, for example in the form of videos and audio.
Again and again, visitors encounter pioneering explorers of the cave system in images and sound and learn interesting facts about legends, history, geology and the natural world. Blautopf VR" provides an insight into the world of explorers and the fascination of their dangerous vocation, allowing users to become part of the explorer community.
A guided discovery tour is now available for the VR glasses Oculus Go available (free download in the Oculus Store). The world of karst caves in the Swabian Alb can also be explored in a multimedia report. A smartphone version for Android and iOS will be released at the beginning of May. A VR game will also follow in May, in which players slip into the role of a cave explorer who sets off in search of a missing colleague.
